Shadows Fall

Shadows Fall se formó en 1995 por los guitarristas Jonathan Donais y Matt Bachand con la ayuda de Adam Dutkiewicz.Donais y Bachand reclutaron al vocalista Philip Labonte, y al bajista Paul Romanko para completar el grupo original de Shadows Fall.La banda sacó su primer EP To Ashes, con Dutkiewicz tocando como baterista de turno. Después de salir el demo, Dutkiewicz dejó la banda para formar a Killswitch Engage. David Germain se unió a la banda como baterista, para llenar la vacante.Shadows Fall realizó una gira por el área de Nueva Inglaterra, presentandose en varios concierto como abridores de artistas como Fear Factory y Cannibal Corpse. La recién formada banda grabó su primer álbum Somber Eyes to the Sky, el 30 de noviembre de 1997 a través de la compañía discográfica de Bachand, Lifeless Records.El nombre de la banda, de acuerdo a las declaraciones de Bachand, se debe al título de un comic book publicado a comienzo de los 1990s.
